Aston Villa record signing avoids collapse after ‘shocking, devastating’ incident

Aston Villa are on the verge of agreeing a record-breaking transfer, but the move almost broke down after a recent incident.

Unai Emery’s side have plenty left to compete for this season as they push to qualify for the UEFA Champions League and win the FA Cup.

However, it appears as though Villa are already thinking ahead to the summer and are on the verge of agreeing a record-breaking transfer deal, which they will be thankful is still on the cards after a “shocking” incident on Monday (21 April).

Aston Villa pushing to sign Sverre Nypan from Rosenborg

As reported by Fabrizio Romano via X on Tuesday (22 April), Aston Villa are close to agreeing personal terms with 18-year-old Rosenborg midfielder Sverre Nypan, with club-to-club talks to follow.

However, it looks as though Villa are favourites to win the race for Nypan and agree on what ex-Villa scout Bryan King described exclusively to Villa News as a record-breaking transfer.

Meanwhile, King also shared that the young midfielder was close to suffering a serious injury as Rosenborg beat Vålerenga 2-0 in the Eliteserien at the Intility Arena, which could have derailed a potential move.

“There was a Villa representative in Norway over the weekend to watch the player,” King said.

“Nypan was involved in an incident which, for me, was quite shocking. How the player who made a tackle on him didn’t get a red card is the talking point in Norway at the moment. The general treatment of the player, the tackles on him, should have been penalised harder than they were.

“There was one tackle in particular which could have broken his leg. The opposition player went in with both feet flat and made contact. It is a good job the game was on AstroTurf, where the studs on the boots aren’t as long.

“If that had been on grass, he would have broken his leg, and can you think of an 18-year-old who is probably on the verge of going to Villa, what a devastating moment that would have been?”

Villa close to first summer signing

It looks as though Villa are already close to agreeing their first transfer deal ahead of the summer, and based on what King has said, it sounds as though Nypan is a difficult player to contain.

Therefore, supporters will be keen to catch a glimpse of the teenager should a deal be made official.
