Aston Villa ‘miss out on eight-figure windfall’ after £70m UEFA jackpot – Exclusive

Aston Villa finally crashed out of the Champions League in the past week, after a sensational return to the top table in Europe.

The Villans beat Paris Saint-Germain 3-2 at Villa Park in the quarter-final second leg, but lost out on aggregate following their 3-1 defeat in the French capital.

Unai Emery was delighted with the effort of his squad and is pushing them towards another qualification, with five spots now open in the Premier League.

Aston Villa miss out on huge jackpot

Dan Plumley has now shared that Villa will have earned an estimated fee of £70million from the Champions League, with more to come from matchday revenue.

The football finance expert did reveal, however, that the Villans missed out on another £12.8m jackpot, which clubs earn from qualifying for the semi-finals.

Paris Saint-Germain have moved on and will face Arsenal at that stage, instead.

“Unfortunately, if you’re out, you’re done,” he exclusively told Villa News.

“The qualification for the semi-finals would have been another £12.8m, but looking at some of the estimates we’ve seen, it’s likely that Villa would have earned around £70m already.

That doesn’t take into account matchday revenue as well, that’s just looking at the prize money and what we estimate the market pool to be for the TV breakdown from UEFA.

It’s £70m in-and-around, possibly a little bit more when you factor in the matchdays, but that will be done for this campaign now, and I’m sure looking back, Villa will be delighted, financially and on the pitch where they’ve got to.”

NSWE blown away by Emery impact at Villa Park

After miraculously surviving relegation in recent years, the transformation has been sensational under Emery and his coaching staff.

Qualifying for the Champions League was one thing, but making that consistent will change everything, with the prospect of silverware in the FA Cup still possible this season, too.

With PSR a clear issue at Villa Park ahead of UEFA regulations coming in too, this added windfall, becoming consistent every year, would be a huge help.

That is up to Emery and his team to continue – what a job they’ve done.
