Aston Villa supporters may see a familiar face in British football as Rangers continue their search for a new manager.
Barry Ferguson’s chances of keeping his place in the dugout seem to be fading rapidly after a string of poor results in the league, and it seems like even Europa League success will not be enough to secure the permanent role.
The current incumbent in Govan is 12/1 with Bet 365 to keep his post beyond the end of the season but is rated at 5/2 by other bookmakers.
Gerrard’s odds to become Rangers manager continue to shorten
Steven Gerrard seems closer than ever to a return to British football with Rangers.
The Liverpool legend enjoyed a sensational stint at Ibrox, winning the Scottish Premiership title in the 2020-21 season and going unbeaten in the process.
The 44-year-old was hired by the Villans in the hopes that he could repeat his success in Scotland but his spell in Birmingham was miserable and he was sacked in October 2022 after winning just 13 of his 40 matches in charge.
The ex-Villa boss was listed as a 7/1 outsider for the role back in March but his chances have skyrocketed in recent weeks.
The former England midfielder shifted to 1/2 with Bet 365 earlier this week which was shorter than the 15/8 odds that he was previously.
More bookmakers have followed suit, with the Liverpudlian now at the same odds with Unibet, Livescore Bet and BetMGM, as per Oddschecker (17 April).
Gerrard can bounce back from Villa horror show
A return to the Gers may be the best option for Gerrard, as he has shown previously that he can manage at that level.
He needs to bounce back from setbacks at Villa Park and at Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Ettifaq, where he left his role by mutual consent in January.

The Auchenhowie club would be the perfect option as he will already have the knowledge of the Scottish game and the contacts in the division.
Combine that experience with the impending 49ers takeover in Glasgow and it should be an easy chance for Gerrard to rebuild his reputation if he can turn around the Light Blues poor squad.
