Aston Villa ‘sack’ mooted after unbelievable pre-match scenes v PSG – ‘Wow’

Aston Villa’s Champions League clash with Paris Saint-Germain got off to an embarrassing start.

The Villans were looking to overturn a 3-1 deficit from the first leg at the Parc des Princes (9 April) and progress to the semi-finals.

However, there was confusion at Villa Park before the whistle had even been blown to start the contest after a pre-match mistake.

Villa involved in embarrassing gaffe before PSG clash

Emery’s side were lined up for pre-match formalities before kick-off when the Champions League anthem is supposed to play.

However, the Europa League anthem was blasted through the speakers in an embarrassing moment for the B6 outfit.

Speaking on BeIN SPORTS (15 April, 19:59 pm), Jason McAteer said: “Wow, someone is looking for a new job in the morning.

“They played the Europa League anthem, wow.”

Emery needs to esnure that Villa are back in the Champions League

While it looks like the Villans are set to be eliminated from the competition as they are currently 5-2 down on aggregate, Emery must ensure that his side are back next season if they want to continue their ambitious rise.

The B6 club are currently seventh in the Premier League but a fifth place finish would be enough to secure qualification due to the performance of English teams this season.

The race for Champions League football.

The 1982 winners are just one point behind Manchester City, who currently occupy the final top five spot but could overhaul them with six matches left to play.

The two sides will meet on April 22 in what could be a crucial game in determining Villa’s fate for the next season.

Chelsea are also in contention for the spot, so the Villans will need to better their results in the final few weeks of the campaign, as they boast a much better goal difference.

They have came into form at the right time, domestically anyway, with four wins from their last four league games and if they can continue that momentum, there is every chance to secure a second successive season amongst Europe’s elite.

They also have a chance to win the FA Cup, so they have to pick themselves up from what looks set to be a disappointing exit and get ready to go again, with a lot to play for.
