Aston Villa fans rage over what Marcus Rashford did v Southampton – ‘Insane’

Aston Villa fans were left unimpressed with Marcus Rashford despite securing a much-needed win against Southampton on Saturday.

The Villans travelled to St Mary’s on 12 April and came away with a huge 3-0 victory to move them up to fifth in the Premier League.

Goals from John McGinn, Ollie Watkins and Donyell Malen proved to be the difference as the B6 club eventually managed to secure three points against the Saints.

Although Unai Emery may have been pleased with the result on the south coast, the performance of Rashford may represent a cause for concern.

Aston Villa fans frustrated by Rashford v Southampton

There is no doubt that the Manchester United loanee has had positive moments in a Villa shirt but has failed to find consistency yet.

This has seen the England international net just three goals since signing in the winter despite making 13 appearances in all competitions.

Frustrations of inconsistency were only echoed on the south coast as the versatile forward failed to live up to expectations once again.

Rashford started as a centre-forward ahead of Watkins but did little of note besides take aim from range on multiple occasions.

The former Red Devils star was then replaced by his international teammate, who went on to win a penalty and later score the opener for the Villans.

This hasn’t been wasted on one supporter who labelled the impact of Watkins compared to the loan signing as “insane”.

This came after another supporter labelled the performance of the 27-year-old as “poor”, suggesting if Watkins did the same, he would be “slaughtered” by fans.

Rashford must step up for Aston Villa

There is no doubt that the Englishman has a superb amount of quality that could make him one of the Villa’s best players on a regular basis.

Unfortunately, he hasn’t been able to showcase that fully under Emery, although neither has Watkins in recent weeks.

Morgan Rogers is an example of someone who has had a terrific impact and has made his presence known week after week this campaign.

Rashford will be hoping to do that as the Villans prepare for the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final clash against PSG at Villa Park.

Supporters will continue to have the loanee’s back and will support him no matter what, but he needs to find some consistency before the campaign ends.
