Stan Collymore sends three-word message after Aston Villa win v Southampton
Stan Collymore has reacted on social media after Aston Villa secured a 3-0 win against Southampton on Saturday.
The Villans travelled to St Mary’s on 12 April and secured a hard-fought win despite two penalty misses from Marco Asensio.
Goals from Ollie Watkins, Donyell Malen and John McGinn proved to be the difference on the south coast as the Saints were subjected to their 26th defeat of the season.
This was a huge result for Unai Emery and Co., with former Villa star Collymore sending a warning to the rest of the Premier League at full time.

The Villans are the only side remaining in the entire division who are still fighting on three fronts and are doing so to excellent effect.
Despite losing against PSG on Wednesday (9 April), a much-needed three points were secured against the Saints to keep Villa in the hunt for Champions League qualification.
After picking up yet another three points, the B6 club are left fifth in the table, just one point off fourth place Manchester City and three points behind Nottingham Forest in third.
Position | Club | Games played | Goal difference | Points |
3. | Nottingham Forest | 32 | +13 | 57 |
4. | Manchester City | 32 | +20 | 55 |
5. | Aston Villa | 32 | +3 | 53 |
This has left supporters at Villa Park excited of where their season could go in the coming weeks if the level of results continue.
This hasn’t been lost on ex-Villa striker Collymore, who has taken to X (12 April) to say: “Count no chickens.”
This was partnered with an image of the top seven of the Premier League, sending a warning that nothing is quite done yet with six games to go.
Aston Villa firmly in Champions League race
Emery won’t settle for a poor end to the season, so defeat in the FA Cup semi-final and in the Champions League on top of a frustrating Premier League finish won’t go down well.
Expectations are high at Villa Park right now, both from supporters and the manager, which will have a telling impact.
Collymore is spot on in what he is saying, but the likes of Ollie Watkins, Morgan Rogers and Marcus Rashford need to prove their worth in the final weeks of the campaign.
These players could prove to be the difference in earning a top-five spot and Champions League qualification before the end of the campaign.
