Rio Ferdinand blown away after what ‘outstanding’ Morgan Rogers did in PSG loss

Morgan Rogers was a rare positive in Aston Villa’s 3-1 loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.

The Villans are on the verge of elimination after the defeat in the Parc des Princes (9 April) after goals from Desire Doue, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Nuno Mendes.

Rogers has been arguably the Villans’ best player this season and that was once again the case in the French capital.

Rogers leaves Ferdinand stunned in Villa loss in Paris

Rogers gave Villa an unlikely lead against the Parisians in the 35th minute of the contest as he connected with Youri Tieleman’s ball across the box after excellent work from John McGinn in the build-up.

Rio Ferdinand was blown away by the strike and heaped praise upon the Villa star after he opened the scoring.

Speaking on TNT Sports (9 April, 20:35 pm), he said: “He’s been my outstanding young player of the season.

“I think he has been tremendous in every aspect of his game, the improvements we’ve seen in his output, goals now at the highest level, he is doing it.”

Aston Villa need to keep Rogers

The 22-year-old has been a revelation this season at Villa Park in a stunning breakout campaign at the top level, taking the Premier League and Europe by storm.

His form has seen him break into the England squad and earn his first start for his country and he continued his impressive rise to stardom in front of Thomas Tuchel at Wembley.

The Villans may face a battle to keep hold of Rogers when the summer transfer window as his form this season is likely to garner significant interest from the elite clubs.

Liverpool, Manchester City have all been linked with a move and Manchester United supporters have begged for Rogers to join after a campaign in which he has notched 14 goals and 11 assists in 45 matches across all competitions.

The England star could become one of the best talents in the nation if he continues on his current trajectory and Villa need to ensure that they match his ambitions and secure a Champions League berth next season, as that could ward off any potential interest in his services.

If they fail to do so, it could be a very tense summer for the Villans faithful as interest in Rogers will likely heat up very quickly.
