UEFA ‘look into losses’ after multi-million Aston Villa announcements – Exclusive
Aston Villa have once again posted significant losses in their latest accounts, but stressed that PSR is not an issue in the Premier League.
The Villans confirmed an £85.4million operating loss in 2023/24, a year after confirming losses of £119.6million, which takes them above the PSR threshold.
With deductibles on top of that, though, the Premier League recently confirmed zero charges for any of its clubs from recent accounts information.

UEFA keep close eye on Aston Villa
Dan Plumley believes it was interesting to see no mention of UEFA regulations in a recent Aston Villa statement, which did mention the Premier League and PSR.
With new UEFA financial rulings coming into place soon, the football finance expert admitted they remain an “unknown” but they do look at acceptable losses.
“This is where it gets really tricky to read it,” he exclusively told Villa News.
“We are looking at two numbers there, £119.6million, £85.4million loss, you add those together and we’re above the threshold in two years, but the Premier League have come out recently and have not charged any club with PSR in the here and now, so they are happy.
“Whatever the club are reporting to the Premier League is okay, at the moment, of course, there will be the clawback they can use, which we often don’t see, but they are significantly high loss figures.
“We can talk about the revenue uplift from the Champions League still, but it comes at a price. I think what is interesting, looking at that statement as well, looking at Villa and their situation, they have made it clear that they’re within the operational boundaries of Premier League PSR, but there is no mention of UEFA rules, and they are in UEFA competitions.
“So, that’s another layer to this that they’ve got to be mindful of within this squad cost rule and also UEFA do look at acceptable losses as well, so I think that’s interesting there is no mention in there.
“I’d be looking at that a little bit as well, as the unknown at the minute.”

Champions League critical at Aston Villa
Constant qualification to the Champions League would be amazing at Villa Park, with revenues going through the roof to combat these losses.
NSWE have pumped money into the club to make this happen, and despite one season at the big table being incredible, it can not be a one-off.
