John McGinn makes ‘weird’ Asensio admission as message resurfaces at Aston Villa
John McGinn has addressed a comment he made about Marco Asensio before he joined Aston Villa.
Asensio has hit the ground running at Villa Park since joining them on loan from Paris Saint-Germain in the winter transfer window, bagging eight goals and an assist in 10 games across all competitions.
The Spain international continued his fine form for Unai Emery’s side in their 3-0 victory over Brighton on Wednesday (2 April), notching a goal and an assist after coming off the bench.
While there is no guarantee about Asensio’s long-term future at Aston Villa, there is no doubt that he is enjoying his time there for the time being.

McGinn addresses old Asensio message
Meanwhile, an old social media post that McGinn made about Asensio resurfaced online in the wake of his goalscoring performance against Brighton on Wednesday.
| Minutes | Accurate Passes | Chances Created | Shot Accuracy | Successful Dribbles | Touches | Ground Duels Won |
| 25′ | 7/11 (64%) | 1 | 2/2 | 1/1 | 19 | 1/3 (33%) |
The post in question was made on X (formerly Twitter) after the Spaniard scored a stunning long-range goal in Real Madrid’s 2-0 win against Barcelona in the second leg of their Supercopa triumph in August 2017.
While no one would have expected Asensio to join Aston Villa eventually, it is worth noting that even McGinn was still not in Birmingham at the time.
Nevertheless, the Scot has addressed his seven-year-old tweet, describing it as “weird”.
“This is a bit weird”, McGinn wrote via his personal X account on Wednesday (2 April).

Aston Villa to end season strongly
Aston Villa are reaping the rewards of being active in the winter transfer window, with the likes of Asensio and Marcus Rashford contributing to the team already.
This has put the Villans in a strong position to compete in all three competitions they are still a part of, with a trophy appearing to be a realistic target this season.
Emery will be optimistic about going all the way with Villa in the FA Cup, in which they face Crystal Palace in the semi-final on 26 April.
The Birmingham-based club will also be hopeful of progressing further in the UEFA Champions League when face PSG in the quarter-final this month.
