Asensio transfer ‘worry’ emerges at Aston Villa amid ‘not good enough’ verdict
Marco Asensio has certainly caught the eye for Aston Villa since signing on loan from PSG in the winter.
The Spaniard joined the Villans alongside Marcus Rashford, with both temporary additions proving to be huge in claret and blue.
This has seen the 29-year-old net multiple important goals already in claret and blue, which could see a permanent transfer be utilised in the summer.
Looking ahead to the upcoming window, Ben Foster has shared his verdict, which could emerge as a concern for the hierarchy at Villa Park.

Asensio worry emerges at Aston Villa
It would likely prove difficult to find a Villa fan who doesn’t want the former Real Madrid man to sign permanently at the end of the campaign.
This comes after he netted eight goals in just 10 appearances across three different competitions and six huge wins for the Villans.
| Appearances | Goals | Assists | |
| Premier League | 5 | 3 | 1 |
| Champions League | 2 | 3 | 0 |
| FA Cup | 3 | 2 | 0 |
| Total | 10 | 8 | 1 |
With that being said, Monchi and Co. could look to sign him on a permanent deal from PSG in the summer despite having no option to buy in his loan agreement.
Former Manchester United goalkeeper Foster has been left unsure by this prospect while speaking on the Football Fill-In (4 April).
He said: “A player with a point to prove can be 10/10, but a player on a five-year contract on 200k a week hasn’t got a point to prove, and that would be the worry for me.
“I’ve seen players once they sign the new deal, the hand break comes up, and they haven’t got to try at all. There’s a reason why Asensio is on loan, there’s a reason why PSG said you’re not good enough.
“The only reason I think, from my experience, when a player gets that crazy deal, it’s comfortable for them, they lose that fight.”
Aston Villa must take Asensio risk in summer
There is little reason why the Villans shouldn’t be striving to sign the 29-year-old permanently in the summer.
As a loan signing, the former Spain international couldn’t have done much more to prove his worth on a weekly basis.
Asensio has been simply superb, and it could prove to be a mistake if Unai Emery doesn’t look to pull the trigger ahead of the new campaign.
Although Villa have been stung by this sort of deal with Coutinho in recent years, but the ex-Real Madrid man looks to be a completely different prospect.
It will be interesting to see if a permanent deal is completed but there will be the hope that he thrives in a Villa shirt if that does go through.
