‘Emery won’t be impressed at Aston Villa’ as Martinez Argentina footage emerges

Aston Villa boss Unai Emery is likely to be unimpressed with Emi Martinez after Argentina’s win against Brazil on Wednesday.

The 32-year-old hasn’t been at his best for the Villans this season, keeping just three Premier League clean sheets in 28 games.

This has led to some criticism of his performances in a Villa shirt but that hasn’t stopped him from being number one for his country.

This saw him start two games during the international break but Emery is unlikely to be pleased with what he did against Brazil on 26 March.

The former Arsenal man has always had a crazy side, which comes out on a regular basis for both club and country.

It is fair to say that this reached new heights for Argentina in their 4-1 win against Brazil with over ten minutes remaining at Estadio Mas Monumental.

Martinez juggled the ball inside his own penalty area, flicking the ball onto his knees and bouncing the ball multiple times before playing a long ball upfield.

Although that went down well with supporters inside the arena, it is bound to frustrate Emery, who is unlikely to like what he has seen.

This capped off a performance which saw him complete just 54 per cent of long balls, failing with six of his efforts [FotMob].

The 32-year-old also failed to contribute with a single save, punch or high claim throughout the clash against the Selecao.

This echoes from his last Premier League outing for the Villans against Crystal Palace, where Dibu conceded one and didn’t chip in with a punch or high claim once again.

Ultimately, he has many standout moments but Emery will likely feel that he needs to focus on his goalkeeping and clean sheets rather than doing these acts of showboating.

Martinez needs to step up for Aston Villa

You would struggle to find a Villa fan who doesn’t think Martinez is the best goalkeeper in the world.

With that being said, there could certainly be some improvements on his form this campaign which has seen him struggle.

The uncertain back line ahead of him has seen Tyrone Mings, Pau Torres, Axel Disasi and Lamare Bogarde all start alongside Ezri Konsa.

That won’t have helped the goalkeeper’s performance levels but ultimately, he will expect better of himself moving forward.

It will be interesting to see what Emery makes of his international antics and how that impacts the keeper moving into the business end of the season.
