Agbonlahor drops Emery admission on talkSPORT after what’s happened at Aston Villa

Aston Villa have climbed the Premier League steadily under the management of Unai Emery and are having another terrific season.

The Villans may have struggled to find some consistency in their form throughout the season so far as they have juggled the added task of Champions League football, but they still have a chance to replicate the top-four finish they achieved in the league last season.

As it stands, Villa are three points away from the top five in the Premier League table, as well as having progressed to the quarter-finals of both the Champions League and the FA Cup.

Agbonlahor hails Emery for Aston Villa

When Emery arrived at Villa Park, he had a big task on his hands and the club have certainly turned things around under his tenure so far.

There is still plenty of work to be done in the West Midlands this season, though, if the Villans are going to feel like they’ve achieved the success they were looking for this term.

Backing up last season with another top-four finish would be a massive statement from Aston Villa to show where their expectations are going forward.

Similarly, bringing a trophy back home, whether from the Champions League or the FA Cup, would put the name of everyone in Claret and Blue in the club’s history books.

While he has not dared to predict whether these goals could be achieved, Agbonlahor did choose Emery as his coaching king in the Premier League.

When asked who he would choose live on talkSPORT (20 March, 9:55am), he answered: “I’m going to choose Unai Emery.

“My reasons behind it are that when he joined Aston Villa, Aston Villa were near the relegation zone. He took them into the Conference League first season, which was an outstanding achievement. Season afterwards, he takes Villa into the Champions League, finishing in the top four.

“This season he has taken Aston Villa into the quarter-finals of the FA Cup, quarter-finals of the Champions League. Still only three points behind the Champions League positions. “

Emery deserves plenty of credit for Aston Villa job

There is no denying that Aston Villa are a club with a rich history and for too many years of late, they have been punching well below their weight competing at the bottom end of the Premier League and the second tier.

Emery has overseen a complete culture shift at Villa Park and the standards have certainly been raised over the past few seasons to bring more success to the West Midlands.

There are some quality players in the team, but the boss has not gone crazy with his recruitment and rather, has worked hard with the players available to him in order to improve them which has definitely paid off.

The boss won’t want to put too much pressure on his men between now and the end of the season with plenty still to play for, but similarly, there is a great opportunity to continue the new era at Villa this term.
