Aston Villa to make ‘significant’ Rory Wilson announcement amid recent exit news

Aston Villa appear to have made a decision with regards to the future of exit-linked teenager Rory Wilson.

Wilson is one of Villa’s most promising youngsters and has impressed everyone at the club since moving from Rangers Unders-18s in 2022.

While Villa are making sure that they have a solid first-team squad filled with quality-laden stars like Rashford, Ollie Watkins, Marco Asensio and others, they are also working on the future of the club.

Wilson’s deal with the Villains is set to expire at the end of the season. The Claret and Blue now look set to make a significant announcement regarding Wilson’s future.

Aston Villa make Rory Wilson contract decision

With the 19-year-old prodigy Wilson close to his contract’s end at Villa, there had been growing fears that the West Midlands club may end up losing the talented teenager for free.

Wilson has had an impeccable record since joining the junior sides at Villa. In Villa’s U18s team, the Scotsman netted 27 goals in 25 games. For the U21s side, Wilson has made 27 appearances, netting eight goals and providing three assists.

Wilson’s impressive record attracted the interest of several clubs across England and Europe, especially with his deal expiring, but the Villa hierarchy has stepped in to fend off that interest.

According to Daily Record [13 March], Aston Villa are closing in on a “significant” new deal with the 19-year-old striker. With his deal expiring at the end of the season, Wilson could have moved for a compensation of around £227,000, which Villa wanted to avoid.

Over the course of the last few weeks, there have been extensive discussions between all concerned parties and a new deal valid until 2028 is set to be agreed.

Wilson has caught the eye of many at his level and the Claret and Blue are making sure that there’s a pathway to the first team for the talented Scotsman.

Wilson the next Ollie Watkins?

Wilson has 36 goals in 57 outings for Villa’s different age groups. Although he is yet to make his first-team debut, it is only a matter of time till he gets his chance and puts on a solid impression in front of Unai Emery.

With Villa tying Wilson down to a deal until 2028, they are betting on the Scotsman to break through into the first team and learn the tricks of the trade of Ollie Watkins, who is quickly becoming one of the best strikers to have played for the Villans.

With Jhon Duran sold to Al Nassr in the January transfer window, there’s an opening for Wilson to grab, if he plays his cards right.

Although a regular spot in the first team is still a distant dream, his abilities and talent make a strong case for him to be considered in the first-team dynamics, as Watkins’ understudy.
