Premier League make announcement about Crystal Palace v Aston Villa incident

Aston Villa were subjected to a controversial incident against Crystal Palace and the Premier League have made an announcement.

The Villans were chasing the game when they thought they had levelled through a Morgan Rogers strike in the 41st minute.

However, the 22-year-old would equalise in the second-half with an ingenious finish that left Dean Henderson stunned.

However, Unai Emery’s side could find themselves struggling to qualify for the Champions League after a contentious decision.

Premier League clarify Aston Villa decision

The Premier League have announced the reason for the goal being disallowed by the VAR.

A post on the official Match Centre account confirmed that the strike was ruled out because Ollie Watkins was offside in the build-up.

Rogers went on to score in the second-half but the Villans were behind again when Jean-Philippe Mateta put the hosts back ahead in the 59th minute and their misery was compounded by Sarr’s second with 19 minutes to go.

Emery will rue VAR decisions

That was not the only decision to go against Unai Emery’s side in the contest as Jacob Ramsey also had an opener ruled out for offside by VAR.

The B6 outfit were in desperate need of a victory to boost their hopes of a second successive Champions League berth alive.

They are currently hanging on by a thread with numerous results going against Villa as it stands, including their own on the night.

Considering that the Villans are in the same side of the bracket as Real Madrid, Liverpool, Arsenal and Paris-Saint Germain, they are unlikely to qualify by winning this season’s competition.

It will likely depend on their league position, which after a run of six without a win in their last seven looks very precarious in terms of European qualification.

Emery needs a big response from his side in the final stages of the contest as defeat would likely confine them to at the very best, Europa League football next season unless there was a major turn around in form.

With ten games remaining for the Villa Park outfit, their chances of securing a spot in Europe’s premier tournament depend on other team’s results, which is never a good thing.
