Ezri Konsa ‘season-ending injury news’ emerges ahead of Aston Villa v Liverpool

Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa would have undergone imaging after the Tottenham game to assess the severity of his hamstring injury, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.

The injury expert claims that it’s not a Grade 0 setback which would’ve just meant muscle tightness as it is something more severe.

The centre-back was unavailable at the weekend as well when Villa played out a 1-1 draw against Ipswich Town on 15 February.

Ezri Konsa unlikely to be ready for Aston Villa v Liverpool

The 27-year-old is not expected to be back in time when Villa take on the Reds on 19 February.

Unai Emery will be hoping that his side can return to winning ways at Villa Park on Wednesday night.

While Konsa is not expected to be back for the game, he will not require surgery so it’s not the end of the season for him.

Speaking about this situation, Dr Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, told Villa News: “He would have undergone imaging the day after the Spurs game as he seemed to have tweaked his hamstring.

“The best case here would be a Grade 0 which is muscle tightness whereas the worst case would be a Grade 4 rupture that requires surgery and would end his season.

I think this is somewhere in the middle and given that he’s not yet returned to full first-team training, there’s a high chance he misses the next game.

Ezri Konsa has been a mainstay under Unai Emery this season

Whenever he’s been fit, Emery has turned to Konsa as a reliable stalwart at the back this season.

The England international has made seven starts in the Champions League, 22 in the Premier League and started their two FA Cup games as well.

While more than half of his games have been played at centre-back, he’s also deputised at right-back for the Spaniard.

It will be more difficult for the Villans to keep the Liverpool attackers at bay without Konsa and it remains to be seen what Emery has in mind to combat the likes of Mo Salah, Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota and Cody Gakpo.
