‘Best business’ done at Aston Villa as Richard Keys drops ‘disgraceful’ claim

Aston Villa have completed the “best business in the transfer window” after signing Marcus Rashford, Richard Keys has said.

Unai Emery’s side have now announced Marcus Rashford’s loan deal until the end of the season, taking the No.9 shirt after Jhon Duran’s big-money move to Saudi Arabia.

The Manchester United forward made his feelings about an exit from Old Trafford very clear during the winter window, finding a new home at Villa Park until the end of the 2024/25 campaign.

Writing via his personal blog [3 February], Keys said: “Best business in the transfer window? Villa’s decision to take Rashford. Clearly Rashford is out of love with the game at the moment, but can you blame him?

“Working with ten Hag would’ve bored the arse off anyone. If Villa can get him firing they’ve got a bargain. Rashford is a player for sure. If he concentrates only on football he’ll find his way again and make Amorim look very silly.

“What a disgraceful thing Amorim said claiming he’d rather play his goalkeeping coach than Rashford. That was a shocking insult.”

Marcus Rashford to hit the ground running at Aston Villa

There are no doubts over Rashford’s abilities whatsoever. He has notched over 400 appearances for the Red Devils since graduating from the club’s academy and has become an international regular.

However, the 27-year-old has become a shell of himself over the last few seasons, unable to make any impact during Erik ten Hag’s reign at Old Trafford.

Even despite how poor he was under the Dutchman, the treatment of the attacking star has been appalling since Amroim’s arrival, especially after being called out by the new manager.

All the supporters at Villa Park will be fully behind him now that his loan has been confirmed, with Villa needing an attacking reinforcement after Duran’s eye-watering exit.

While he has been overlooked by the Red Devils, only Amad Diallo and Bruno Fernandes have more goals than him in the Premier League. He should make an instant impact for the Villans.

In other Aston Villa news, Henry Winter has already mooted a “caveat” in Rashford’s move to Villa Park.
