Emi Buendía exit: Aston Villa ace ‘to move abroad’ despite Leeds speculation
Emi Buendía could leave Aston Villa in the winter transfer window – although it isn’t quite clear yet where the midfielder might go.
Leeds United has been described as a “perfect” destination for Buendía.
However, the Whites believe that La Liga interest will prove too attractive to the playmaker [via Graham Smyth, 20 January], while Alan Nixon described Leeds’ pursuit of Buendía as “ambitious” via his Blue Sky account (23 January).
Buendía has hardly been used by Villa since returning from injury, with the club urged to accept a cut-price deal for the Argentine, which might explain Leeds’ interest.
However, ex-Villa scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Villa News – thinks the 28-year-old is more likely to leave England if he does move on in the winter transfer window.
“Buendía could move abroad,” King said.
“I’m sure there are teams in Spain or France who would sign him. I think that would be a more suitable move for him than a move to another club in England at this moment in time as he looks to get himself back to playing football.
“Therefore, that is a big possibility. It is less intense in those leagues, which could allow him to get himself back up to speed.”
Aston Villa ace Emi Buendía to move abroad?
Buendía played under Daniel Farke previously at Norwich City, which might have given some Leeds fans optimism that a deal could be agreed.
However, despite that connection to Farke, if a La Liga club were to come in for Buendía, convincing the player to head to the Championship instead could be a hard sell.
Either way, whether he joins Leeds or moves abroad, what is clear is that the Villa number 10 needs to move before 3 February if he wants to play regular football between now and the end of the season, as the player appears to have no future in the West Midlands.

Therefore, a deal needs to be agreed soon, with the clock ticking.
