Aston Villa: Premier League ‘a disgrace’ as Emi Martinez responds to announcement
Aston Villa supporters joined Emi Martinez in hitting back at a Premier League snub on social media.
The 32-year-old was named in the EA Sports FC Team of the Season for his incredible efforts this year, but was not included in the announcement on the Premier League’s official X account (22 January).
Although the Argentine has been portrayed negatively at times this season, he rightfully deserved his place in the Team of the Season and has expressed his feelings.
Martinez replied to the X post showing his trophy in retaliation, but many Aston Villa supporters believe a clear agenda is at play.
Aston Villa supporters join Emi Martinez v the Premier League
The Argentine World Cup winner has nothing left to prove in the Premier League, but this is a strange move by the league’s social media admin.
Perhaps the goalkeeper would have been granted the recognition he deserves had he long completed a move to one of the biggest sides in England, as he has widely been urged to do.
One supporter believes the snub is a result of “big six bias”, whereas another fan believes “not even the league likes Martinez”.
Another supporter launched a scathing attack at the Premier League, writing, “[It’s] disgraceful that you’ve missed out Emi Martinez. How you’ve not deleted this and put it right is baffling.”

At the end of the day, the reaction on social media is purely from a tweet about a video game.
Yes, the argument can be made that the official Premier League account only chose to focus on players within “the big six”, but is it really that big of a deal? Apparently so.
