Aston Villa are expected to complete a transfer for Kasimpasa defender Yasin Ozcan, according to Mike McGrath.

The Telegraph journalist posted on X (23 January) that sources in Turkey have reported advancements in talks between the Lions and Kasimpasa, with the centre-back set to arrive at Villa Park.

Ozcan, 18, has played regularly in the SuperLig this term and has already been spotted at Villa Park this month, with talks between the clubs raising the possibility of him being loaned back.

Aston Villa set to strengthen defence with Yasin Ozcan signing

While it's still to be confirmed whether or not Ozcan will be sent back on loan to Kasimpasa for the second half of the season if and when he does sign, circumstances may result in that not happening.

Villa's central defensive stocks have been weakened in the past 24 hours, with Diego Carlos' departure to Fenerbahce – another Turkish SuperLig side – now confirmed to leave them short of bodies.

Loic Bade had been expected to come in as a replacement and upgrade, on Carlos, with a swap deal even mooted between Villa and Sevilla, but the Frenchman has since decided he'd prefer to stay put [Alberto Fernandez, 23 January].

That leaves Emery in desperate need of centre-back cover before the 3 February deadline, and though the Villans will be keeping hold of versatile defender Lamare Bogarde, additions would be welcome.

As a result, sending Ozcan back to Kasimpasa now looks less likely than him being thrown in at the deep end for the rest of the campaign, and he may prove to be just what Villa have been missing at the back.
