Aston Villa ‘transfer agreement helps PSR’ again, another exit done – Expert

Aston Villa have protected their PSR situation with the sale of Jaden Philogene to Ipswich, Dan Plumley has suggested.

The England youth international has left Villa Park for Portman Road only six months after returning permanently from Hull, with the latest deal worth up to £20million plus add-ons (Fabrizio Romano).

Plumley, a football finance expert, admits it is similar to the deals that saw the likes of Omari Kellyman and Lewis Dobbin sold over the summer to help PSR.

“That is the wider picture with it all,” he exclusively told Villa News.

“That is absolutely the case there, we saw this in the summer last year with Villa and others.

There was that movement of players and a lot of the time with those clubs that we think are really close to the wire with PSR, that’s what is principally driving that movement.

Aston Villa seal another PSR-helping transfer

“It’s more around PSR than it is anything to do with where you want your squad to be sometimes.”

Wes Edens and Nassef Sawiris know exactly what they are doing in this space, and have helped turn Villa into a Champions League powerhouse again through their methods.

Philogene never lived up to the expectations of him at Villa Park this time around, with zero goals or assists in 16 appearances across three competitions.

NSWE have made it no secret that they’re against PSR in the Premier League, making their feelings clear, but deals like this help their position either way.
