Louie Barry ‘to receive first-team Aston Villa chance’ amid Celtic approach

Louie Barry could be offered a chance to prove his worth at Aston Villa.

Barry has been widely linked with a move away from Villa in the winter transfer window, with suggestions that he could be worth as much as £10million.

As reported by Sky Sports News via their online transfer centre [14 January, 12:05 pm], Villa are set to assess the future of Barry in training before deciding on his future, with Celtic having enquired about the striker’s availability.

Therefore, ex-Villa scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Villa News – thinks Unai Emery could hand Barry a chance to play for the first team.

“Emery wants to take a proper look at him and rightly so,” King said.

“Anything could happen between now and the end of the month, Villa are still in a lot of competitions. Therefore, they’ve got to be careful, we’ve seen Jhon Duran miss a few games already, and players can get injured.

“As a result, Barry could get a chance in the first team. What was the point of bringing him back if they weren’t going to give him a game and see how he can handle the first team.”

Unai Emery to hand Louie Barry first-team opportunity for Aston Villa?

If Villa and Emery want to asses Barry, the best way of doing that is by throwing him in at the deep end and handing him a first-team opportunity.

While he is unlikely to start ahead of Ollie Watkins or Duran, he could be handed half an hour toward the end of a Premier League match.

Letting Barry leave on loan is low risk. However, selling him could be a mistake, especially with behind the scenes conflict mooted between Watkins and Duran.

Therefore, the club need to ensure they take a closer look and make a decision on what happens next.
