Aston Villa exit now close as transfer terms agreed

Aston Villa have reached an agreement with Fenerbahce for the transfer of Diego Carlos, according to Yagiz Sabuncuoglu.

The Turkish journalist reported via X (17 January) that terms have been agreed between the two clubs to sanction the exit of the Brazilian.

The centre-back has made just 10 Premier League appearances for Villa this term with the Villans interested in bringing new defenders in to the club this window.

Diego Carlos set for Aston Villa exit

This seems like a deal that will suit all parties and Unai Emery will be glad to get it over the line so he can prepare to look forward to the remainder of the campaign.

Although the Villans are in a good place sitting seventh in the Premier League and going strong in the Champions League, their defensive record is not up to scratch and the boss will be eager to improve this during the transfer window.

Furthermore, the Brazilian has not put in performances worthy of convincing his manager that he can help to solve the Villans’ defensive woes so it’s no surprise that the club are looking to offload him.

In addition to this, a move to Turkey will give 31-year-old the opportunity for first-team minutes, which certainly seems to be exactly what he wants at this stage in his career.

With PSR constraints playing their part during the winter transfer window, finalising this move now will give Emery the opportunity to bring new faces in during the remainder of the window.
