Galatasaray ‘to make Diego Carlos loan proposal’ amid Aston Villa exit news

Diego Carlos looks set to leave Aston Villa in the winter transfer window.

L’Équipe journalist Loïc Tanzi reported via X on Thursday (9 January) that Carlos was the most “advanced” lead at Fenerbahçe.

José Mourinho’s side aren’t the only team in Turkey interested in the Brazillian, with Fabrizio Romano reporting via X (15 January) that Galatasaray have also approached Villa about a deal for Carlos.

However, ex-Villa scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Villa News – believes that Galatasaray would only be interested in signing the defender on loan.

“What kind of money could Villa get for Carlos?” King asked.

“Perhaps he will leave on loan. At this time of the year, any transfers depend on the state of the squad, if you have a list of injuries then you have to be careful about who you let go.

“However, Carlos would certainly be a player who wants first-team football. If Galatasaray are going to sign him, I think it would be on loan with an option to buy. If Carlos does leave the club, I imagine it will be on loan.”

Diego Carlos to join Galatasaray on loan from Aston Villa?

It appears as though Carlos’ future lies away from Villa Park, especially with the club looking to sign Sevilla defender Loïc Badé, who has been backed to hit the ground running in the West Midlands [via VamosMiSevilla, 14 January].

However, if a permanent transfer can’t be agreed in the winter window, a loan deal could still be useful. It would allow Unai Emery’s side to get the player’s wages off their books, while the centre-back would be able to go and play first-team football elsewhere.

And then, when the summer window opens, a permanent solution can be found.

In other Aston Villa news, the club have made an approach to sign a Chelsea defender.
