Aston Villa position themselves for Skriniar transfer amid Tottenham development
Aston Villa are interested in signing Milan Skriniar from Paris Saint-Germain this window, according to L’Equipe.
The French sports daily reported via their website on 7 January that the Birmingham-based club, as well as Tottenham, have “positioned themselves” to sign the centre-back, who is attracted by the prospect of joining the Premier League.
Skriniar is expected to decide on his next destination this week, with PSG set to sanction a loan transfer, although they insist on making it a loan-to-buy deal of some sort.
Galatasaray remain the “most insistent contender” for the 29-year-old, while Napoli only want him on a simple loan agreement.
Diego Carlos surely done at Aston Villa amid Milan Skriniar development
It is no secret that Borussia Dortmund’s Donyell Malen has emerged as Aston Villa’s top target for this window as they look to strengthen their attack. They have already had a £13.3million bid rejected by the Bundesliga club, who want £16.6m plus bonuses [Sky Sports].
However, it appears Unai Emery and Monchi are also looking at the possibility of bolstering their options in defence, with Skriniar emerging as an option.
Villa are not short of options in the centre-back position as they have Pau Torres, Ezri Konsa, Tyrone Mings and Diego Carlos in their ranks. They also have Kortney Hause, who is currently sidelined with an injury however.

The news that Aston Villa are interested in Skriniar surely means Carlos’ time at Villa Park is nearing an end.
Sky Sports reported on Monday (6 January) that Fenerbahce have set their sights on signing the Brazilian.
With the Turkish giants willing to pay £10m for the 31-year-old, it would not be a surprise if the Villans cashed in on him and signed Skriniar as a replacement.
In other Aston Villa news, the Villans already have an agreement over the signing of a top target.
