Kamara accused of diving as MOTD footage emerges in Aston Villa v Leicester

Boubacar Kamara should have been booked for diving as Aston Villa beat Leicester City at Villa Park on Saturday, according to Keith Hackett.

In the first half, 25-year-old Kamara went down in the penalty area after a challenge by Stephy Mavididi.

Referee Jarred Gillett allowed play to continue after Kamara looked at him and appealed for a penalty before VAR Peter Bankes also checked it and didn’t think any further action was warranted.

After seeing replays of the incident, former Premier League and FIFA-registered referee Hackett said that Kamara in fact should have been booked for simulation after he went down.

Frankly, until referees start to issue yellow cards for these acts of simulation with the intention to deceive the referee, ‘diving’ will continue,” Hackett told Villa News.

This is an example how players manufacture contact and go to ground.

Mavididi didn’t win the ball. However, the contact on Kamara was so minimal that there’s no way it should have caused Kamara to hit the deck.

The French midfielder seemed to go looking for that penalty after a heavy touch of the ball.

Either way, Villa still won the game 2-1.

It was 0-0 when Kamara went down but the incident is unlikely to be talked about much now thanks to goals by Ross Barkley and Leon Bailey putting Villa up to eighth in the Premier League table.

Mavididi scored the Foxes’ goal.
