Jamie Carragher makes wild new Aston Villa claim

Jamie Carragher has backed Aston Villa to beat Leicester City 3-0 on Saturday, but that feels unlikely based on recent trends.

The Villans are coming off the back of a 2-2 draw against Brighton on Monday (30 December) where Ollie Watkins and Morgan Rogers were on the scoresheet.

Despite this, Unai Emery’s side went without three points for the second game in a row and will be looking to turn the tide against the Foxes.

Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side travel to Villa Park on 4 January and Carragher, in his Super 6 predictions [3 January] has backed the home side for a 3-0 win.

Given the recent results and performances, combined with various injury and suspension issues, this feels unlikely.

The Villans have been inconsistent in recent weeks, helping to contribute to an up-and-down season so far.

With that being said, that is what makes a 3-0 win against Leicester feel unlikely right now unless the clash represents a change in B6.

Starting with injuries, Pau Torres is set to be out for two months while Tyrone Mings and Diego Carlos could be set to miss out at Villa Park, leaving the defence light.

This isn’t going to help a backline that has only kept two clean sheets in 19 games, while conceding 31 goals already, the seventh most in the division.

Suspensions tell a similar story in forward areas with Jhon Duran continuing his ban from his red card against Newcastle United, while Morgan Rogers is also out after picking up five yellow cards.

This will pile additional pressure on the likes of Ollie Watkins, who has struggled at times this season and has had fitness issues of his own.

As a result, it feels unlikely that the Villans are going to secure a win as easily as a 3-0 prediction from Carragher would suggest.
