Aston Villa transfer twist as Unai Emery confirms Pau Torres news

Sil Swinkels may be set to have a different January transfer window than he expected at Aston Villa.

The 20-year-old is clearly highly rated at Villa Park as he has already made a senior appearance for the Villans, against Wycombe Wanderers in the EFL Cup.

Despite this being a great chance for the PL2 regular to get some minutes in the EFL, his services may be required for Unai Emery’s side in the coming months.

Sil Swinkels may stay at Aston Villa in January

The former Netherlands Under-18s international may be forced into the Premier League or Champions League limelight to help cover for an injury to Pau Torres.

The Spaniard was helped down the tunnel after suffering an innocuous-looking injury against Brighton on Monday night (30 December).

Emery has now confirmed in his press conference, reported by John Townley (3 January), that the 27-year-old will be absent for two months.

With Diego Carlos and Tyrone Mings also struggling for regular fitness, there is every chance that the Villans are forced to call on Swinkels for upcoming clashes.

Leicester City and West Ham United are set to travel to Villa Park in the next two fixtures, which could represent an acid test against two Premier League sides for the young centre-back.

It will be interesting to see if the Villa boss hands the 20-year-old the chance to impress or whether a loan move to Wycombe is still preferred during the winter window.
