The Lions are expected to make a second bid for the 25-year-old and are hopeful of acquiring his signature this month.

Aston Villa ambitious with Donyell Malen January transfer update

Unai Emery’s team are showing ambition with the approach for Mallen, considering they already have a host of attacking talent in their ranks.

The Birmingham club have two outstanding number nines, Ollie Watkins and Jhon Duran, who’ve been in red-hot form over the last few months.

On the right wing, Moussa Diaby left for Saudi Arabia in the summer of 2024, but Leon Bailey is still at the Spanish manager’s disposal.

Jaiden Philogene hasn’t had the best of starts on his return to Villa Park, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see the youngster leave in January.

John McGinn and Morgan Rogers have been Emery’s preferred wingers, but Malen would certainly be a welcome addition.

The Holland international is a pacy winger capable of being deployed in multiple positions in the attacking line.

In 20 appearances in all competitions for BVB this season, the 25-year-old has found the back of the net five times and has provided one assist.

The Lions’ form has been topsy-turvy in the current campaign, and they evidently need to add freshness to their squad to reinvigorate.

In other Aston Villa news, Lewis Dobbin set for another exit already in January.
