Sky Sports presenter drops absolute howler over Aston Villa player live on air
Aston Villa loanee Louie Barry was the topic of a howler made by Simon Thomas on Sky Sports News after scoring for Stockport County.
Barry has excelled in League One this season and, having opening the scoring against Rotherham (29 December), his goal tally was increased to 16 ahead of his return to Villa in January.
The Villans will recall the forward ahead of a potential loan move to the Championship, but Thomas got his dates all wrong after what he said live on Sky Sports News (29 December, 12:47 pm).
Reacting to Barry’s goal, Thomas said: “The problem is, though, League One’s top scorer is being recalled by Aston Villa after this game.”
Which, thankfully for Stockport, isn’t the case at all as Barry will have an encounter against Birmingham before his return to Villa Park on 2 January.
Championship loan could be making of Louie Barry at Aston Villa
Barry has certainly had an interesting career, having once been on the books of Barcelona but now playing his football at Stockport.
However, his performances at the League One promotion hopefuls have been remarkable and a step up to Championship level could set him up to be a future first-teamer at Villa.
His goal record matched with his incredible level of ability on the ball has provided him with an excellent platform to build from but Villa have a crucial role to play in his development.

The next move has to be a carefully considered one. While it is vital that Barry gets first-team football, it is also just as important that he is playing in a competent side capable of utilising his strengths.
Failure to do that will likely leave serious question marks over their decision to recall him from what has been a successful loan spell last Stockport County.
