Aston Villa to profit massively from Louie Barry as transfer claim made
Aston Villa can profit massively if they make the right decision over Louie Barry’s future in the January transfer window.
The 21-year-old has taken League One by storm this season with 14 goals in 19 appearances while on loan with Stockport County.
His impressive form has led to plenty of discussion about his future, with teams including Sheffield United and Middlesbrough reportedly interested in taking the winger on loan for the second half of the season.
Nevertheless, speaking to BBC Radio Manchester [12 December], Stockport manager Dave Challinor argued that staying put would be best.
“We obviously hope that he can stay with us and score another 15 goals in the backend of the season,” he said.
“We are quite selfishly going to say that that monetises his value more than maybe going to a Championship side and not having the impact, not playing the same amount of minutes he’s having here.
“We all hope that’s not the case [having to replace Barry] and I’m sure if you ask Louie, he probably hopes that’s not the case because he’s in a really good place.”
Louie Barry and Aston Villa could benefit from staying at Stockport County
There is no doubt that Barry is absolutely excelling in his loan spell with the Hatters and as a result, you can see why it is tempting to recall him to Villa Park and send him on a loan spell to a Championship club, giving him the opportunity to push himself at a higher level.
However, it’s also important not to get carried away and hamper his development by going too far too soon.
In the same Stockport side in a league lower last season, the winger scored nine goals across the campaign and while that is a good return, it highlights just how much he has grown recently.

Therefore, moving him on too early could lead to him suddenly being in a side where the manager is not choosing to use him on a regular basis, limiting his minutes and in turn, lessening the impact he can have which could have an impact on the youngster’s confidence in the game.
If Villa opt to keep him settled for the remainder of the campaign, he would no doubt come back in the summer as a highly rated star which would give his parent club plenty of options for cashing in, given his contract expires in May.
