Michael Owen left sick to his stomach by what Aston Villa fans did
Michael Owen blasted Aston Villa fans after they booed Jack Grealish following their victory against Manchester City.
The homegrown Villa boy played the full 90 minutes for City against his former side on Saturday [21 December] as Villa overcame their opponents 2-1 to leapfrog the champions in the table.
Grealish departed Villa in a £100million deal for City back in August 2021 and was greeted with boos by some supporters, with the England international reacting by holding up three fingers to show how many Premier League titles he’s won since his Villa Park exit.
Former Liverpool striker Owen hit out at the Villa supporters, arguing they should be thankful for what he did as he posted on X (22 December): “But there was another story at Villa Park yesterday that genuinely left me feeling sick to the bottom of my stomach.
“Of course, tarring a set of people with the same brush is not something I’m into. I’ve lived a life whereby myself and my teammates have been stereotyped and it’s pretty annoying. There will always be kind, honest, generous, respectful, caring people in all walks of life just as there will always be nasty, jealous, spiteful, bitter people too. Your job or where you’re from doesn’t necessarily make you fall into a certain category.
“But to those Villa fans who booed Jack Grealish yesterday, you fall into the second category and should hang your heads in shame.
“Here is a lad that came through YOUR academy. Supported The Villa all his life and no doubt still does. He single-handedly dragged YOUR team back into the Premier League when you were bang average at best. He kept you up and in hindsight, showed you ten times more loyalty than you are now showing him.
“He was hardly ever injured and delivered Man Of The Match performances on a regular basis. He cost you nothing, gave you incredible service and made YOUR club over £100m when he left.”
Aston Villa fans poked fun at Jack Grealish
Aston Villa would have been thrilled with their result against Manchester City on Saturday as their performance saw them come away with a well-deserved win to put them above their opponents in the Premier League table.
Grealish was seemingly frustrated at full-time and after being riled up by the Villa supporters throughout the game, he was quick to remind the home supporters of what he has been able to achieve since leaving the club, which also did not go down particularly well.

The truth is that fans pay their hard-earned money and can react however they like when a former player comes to B6, no matter the context behind it and that is what supporters did.
Ultimately, Villa came away with the win so it’s immaterial anyway, but it’s really not Owen’s business to tell any Villa fan how they should react.
