Youri Tielemans blows away BBC pundit with Aston Villa moment v Manchester City

Aston Villa dominated Manchester City on Saturday in the Premier League and one moment from Youri Tielemans stunned a BBC pundit.

The Villans welcomed the reigning league champions to Villa Park on 21 December and got the better of them, with Jhon Duran and Morgan Rogers getting on the scoresheet in either half.

Phil Foden tried to inspire a comeback in the final minutes of the fixture, but his goal was a mere consolation for Pep Guardiola’s team.

With the win, the Lions now sit fifth in the table and have overtaken Man City after their poor run of form in recent weeks.

While the Citizens haven’t been at their best, Unai Emery’s team put in a brilliant display to beat them. Rogers was the Man of the Match, but Tielemans pulled the strings in the middle of the park.

Rogers set Duran up in the build-up to the Lions’ first goal, but the Belgium international was just as instrumental to it.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live [21 December, 12:50pm], Scotland and Aston Villa defender Rachel Corsie said: “Selfless from Rogers, he was through on goal but he knew Duran had a better angle.

“You have to credit Youri – the ball to send Rogers free was exceptional. Villa have been organised, and they have been waiting for that opportunity.”

Tielemans played the full 90 minutes for Villa against Guardiola’s team, having 45 touches on the ball and a 76 per cent passing accuracy, as per FotMob.

The 27-year-old created one chance in the game, played five passes into the final third and had a 100 per cent long ball accuracy.

Aside from his attacking contribution, the Belgian also covered well at the back, winning two tackles, making one interception, four defensive actions and one recovery.

The midfielder also won four of his duels and was fouled once as Emery’s team kept the Sky Blues at bay, and the Spanish manager will hope the form continues in the Newcastle United fixture on Boxing Day.
