Aston Villa legend could one day return to succeed Unai Emery at Villa Park
Dan Bardell could see Olof Mellberg eventually becoming Aston Villa manager after joining MLS side St Louis City despite not wanting rid of Unai Emery yet.
The Villans have been in a rough patch of form in recent weeks but that hasn’t dampened supporters’ view on the Spaniard who is still loved in B6.
Despite this, some fans have questioned whether the former centre-back could become head coach at Villa Park after being unveiled as manager of the American outfit on 26 November.
Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell was pleased to see the Swede pick up a new role and could see him taking over in the West Midlands at some point in the future.
Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bardell said: “I think he did well in Sweden and had a good couple of seasons before deciding to leave.
“It will be interesting to see what he does because he is a Villa legend, given what he did for the club. You never know where he could end up, a lot of players end up at old clubs as managers.
“I wouldn’t want Unai Emery to leave any time soon but you never know one day, Mellberg could be in the dugout at Villa Park.“
Olof Mellberg could replace Unai Emery at Aston Villa in the future
The ex-Villareal defender was superb across his seven-year spell with the club and after giving shirts away to fans on his last appearance, cemented his reputation as a legend at Villa Park.
As a result, it would be certainly well-received if he was to return to B6 in any capacity and as manager the 47-year-old would have the backing of the Villa faithful.
With that being said, no one would want to see Emery leave any time soon given how much good he has done for the Villans in such a short spell.

Regardless of a tough spell in recent weeks, the Spaniard has plenty of credit in the bank to work with before even the thought of the sack can be considered.
