Unai Emery and Monchi have identified two positions in need of reinforcement in January at Aston Villa, according to Charlie Haffenden.

The Birmingham World journalist reports that Villa are in the market for a right-back and a versatile attacking midfielder in the January transfer window.

Unai Emery's side are currently winless in their last eight matches in all competitions after the 3-0 loss to Chelsea on Sunday (1 December).

The report states that the two Villans decision-makers are concerned about a lack of squad depth in but will only make a move if they think the player is the right one.

Aston Villa need to do something to arrest poor form

The Villans must do something to arrest the poor run that has seen them not win in the last eight matches.

Right-back has been a particular issue, with Matty Cash struggling for fitness and youngster Lamare Bogarde failing to impress when deputising for the Poland star.

It would be no surprise if Villa look to bring in a more capable replacement for Cash than the 20-year-old, especially with the club competing in the Champions League this season.

Meanwhile, in attacking midfield, Villa currently have Morgan Rogers, Leon Bailey, Jaden Philogene and Emiliano Buendia to call upon.

While Rogers has been enjoying an impressive season, the same cannot be said for the latter three, they have all underwhelmed so far this campaign, especially Bailey, who has notched just two league assists.

Bringing in another attacking talent could propel the Villans back into top four contention, they are only four points away but must stop the rot if they are to catch up.
