Darren Bent shares ‘crazy’ verdict after Unai Emery sack talk he’s heard at Aston Villa
Darren Bent believes it would be “crazy” to sack Unai Emery regardless of a poor run of form at Aston Villa.
The Villans are without a win in their last eight games in all competitions, continuing the poor run with a 3-0 defeat away to Chelsea on Sunday (1 December).
Fans aren’t yet questioning the Spaniard and, while speaking live on talkSPORT (4 December, 5:07pm), the ex-Villa striker suggested it would be the wrong decision to sack the manager this season, no matter where they finish.
He said: “It would be incredibly harsh and completely crazy [to sack Emery]. Aston Villa fans are clever supporters, they understand their football club. At some point, there was going to be a wobble. From the moment he walked in the door, to now, they probably can’t believe where they’re at.
“He has been phenomenal. If Aston Villa were to crash out of the Champions League and finish 10th this season, it wouldn’t be good but I’d like to think there wouldn’t be any Aston Villa fans going: ‘That’s an outrage’.”

Regardless of how good the ex-Arsenal boss has been at Villa Park, questions can still be asked of him after the form in recent weeks.
There have been some questionable tactical decisions that have left his side exposed at times, none more so than against Crystal Palace where the midfield was almost non-existent in transition.
This wasn’t backed up by a positive result against Chelsea where the build-up from the back left his side exposed throughout in what was a very poor performance.

Despite any questions that may be being asked of Emery, there is no doubt that he has plenty of credit in the bank from securing Conference League and Champions League football in his two seasons in charge.
It would be, like Bent said, a “crazy” decision to even question his future in B6 as there is no better manager around that Villa could ever bring in to replace him.
