Aston Villa have sent their top spies to watch Reims starlet Valentin Atangana amid interest from Everton, according to Alan Nixon.

The journalist reported on his Patreon on 1 December that the Villans had scouts in attendance at a game last week where 25 other sides were watching the 19-year-old.

Villa's number one scout Steve Head was joined by spies from fellow Premier League side Everton to review the young midfielder.

The France Under-21 international has certainly caught the eye of big clubs across Europe which is representative of his performances in Ligue 1.

Reims sitting ninth in the table and the midfielder has stood out predominantly as a defensively minded midfielder.

The 2005-born starlet broke into the Red and Whites' first team in the 2022/23 season and has continued to play a role ever since.

Atangana is known for his tackling and defensive abilities while also having an eye for the simple things on the ball in the midfield.

This could make him a perfect signing for Unai Emery's midfield which has struggled at times this season, especially in the absence of Boubacar Kamara and Amadou Onana.

It is unclear as to how much it could cost to bring the youngster in but with the number of interested clubs, it is unlikely to be a cheap deal.

Villa have shown that they are willing to complete deals with a loan-back option, as they did with Kosta Nedeljkovic last season, which could prove to be a useful option in the coming weeks.
