Aston Villa player forced into early retirement due to significant setbacks
Aston Villa academy graduate Myles Sohna had to retire as the ACL injuries probably caused degenerative changes in the knee, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.
The injury expert claims that Sohna’s situation isn’t what players normally do as they have bounced back from ACL setbacks at a young age.
The 22-year-old defender released a statement on 16 November stating that it was the hardest decision he’s had to make.
Speaking about this situation, Dr Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, told Villa News: “This sounds like the ACL injuries probably led to other degenerative changes in the knee which were causing too much pain and dysfunction to continue and/or would lead to significant health concerns down the line.
“There are plenty of young players who return from ACL injuries so Sohna’s situation certainly isn’t the norm.“
Myles Sohna never got to make his Aston Villa debut
It truly would’ve been a regret for Sohna as he never got to make his senior debut for the club where he came through the ranks.
He featured 17 times for the Under-18s and on 11 occasions for the Under-21s and had it not been for his injury setbacks, he could’ve been around the first-team picture.

Hopefully, he continues to be associated with the club and the game in one way or another.
