Unai Emery got Morgan Rogers call spot on after ‘peanuts’ Aston Villa transfer
Morgan Rogers has been one of the best finds in recent years by any Premier League club as Aston Villa acquired him for £8million, according to Ian Darke.
The TV commentator, speaking exclusively to Villa News, lauded the 22-year-old who starred for England for the first time during the international break.
The forward scooped his first two caps, playing 25 minutes against Greece and a further 16 against the Republic of Ireland, and has now signed a bumper new deal until 2030 at Villa Park.
“Rogers very much deserved his opportunity. Unai Emery made it pretty clear before that he thought Rogers should be in the senior team rather than the Under-21s, and I would agree,” Darke said.
“I’d say he’s one of the best buys in recent seasons by any club. It was only about £8million Villa got him for. That’s peanuts in the Premier League. He’s dynamic, powerful, a ball carrier who turns up in the penalty area and gets involved with goals.
“I’m looking forward to seeing if he can be that player for England as well.”
Aston Villa need Morgan Rogers at his best to stop the rot
Rogers has been a revelation for Aston Villa so far this term, a product of immense trust from his head coach as a regular starter in a Champions League-level outfit.
However, now is Emery’s biggest challenge as boss at Villa Park, with his team having run out of short-term steam and lost their last four.

Rogers will be required at his best, buoyant from his England landmark alongside the likes of Ollie Watkins and Scotland hero of the week John McGinn, to help drag their team from the miniature freefall.
In other Aston Villa news, a potential £25million signing could push Diego Carlos out of the side.
