Ollie Watkins backed to hit Aston Villa form after ‘Freak’ incidents recently

Ty Bracey has backed Ollie Watkins to hit form for Aston Villa after scoring for England despite competition from Jhon Duran.

The 28-year-old netted his fifth goal for the Three Lions during the international break, scoring for the first time since 19 October against Fulham.

Despite this recent lack of output, the Englishman still has positive numbers at this stage of the campaign with five goals and two assists across 11 Premier League starts.

Villa podcaster Bracey, who features on the Villa Social, believes Watkins could hit his stride after the international break after facing early season competition from Duran.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bracey said: “He’s in a similar place to where he was last season in terms of numbers.

When Jhon Duran is having these freak incidents, coming on the pitch and doing magic on a regular basis it puts a lot of pressure on Watkins to perform.

There’s no harsher critic on Ollie Watkins than himself so getting that goal for England would have been massive.

Hopefully, we can see some consistency in his form and see some goals.

It must be frustrating for Watkins to see the Colombia international receive so much praise and adulation from the Villa supporters, especially after his antics during the summer transfer window.

Despite this, Unai Emery has always maintained his faith in the ex-Brentford man who always seems to hit a purple patch of form midway through the season.

It is a positive for the Villans to have two top strikers but they have to be in form and right now they aren’t.

With a clash against Crystal Palace coming up on Saturday (23 November), there is a good chance for both stars to show their best form.

In other Aston Villa news, Watkins has sent a three-word message as a new deal has been confirmed at Villa Park.
