Aston Villa make Manchester City row decision as letter sent to Richard Masters and Premier League

Aston Villa are backing Manchester City in the case of new associated party transaction (APT) rules, according to Tom Morgan.

The Telegraph reporter took to X [19 November] to share that the Villans have rallied behind the Sky Blues and have sent a “strong recommendation” letter to Richard Masters and other clubs to delay Friday’s vote.

The vote on 22 November is set to be regarding an amendment in the rules governing commercial deals between clubs and corporations with the same ownership.

APTs are crucial to stop teams from signing lucrative deals that are above fair market valuation.

City’s case can be seen as an example of how pumping money into a football without any oversight can be unfair to other teams.

Villa are one of the clubs that have been affected by the Sky Blues’ lavish spending, with Pep Gurdiola’s team spending an enormous amount to sign Jack Grealish in the summer of 2021, and with Unai Emery thriving, one could see the Cityzen’s making a move for him.

While one can argue that the England international had become too big for the Lions at the time and that the club got a good deal, the 29-year-old was still a world-class player who could’ve helped the team succeed sooner.

The rejection of the APT rules would also make a mockery of PSR, and teams with wealthy owners could easily bypass it.

Villa could also benefit from it, but other teams like Manchester United, Tottenham, Arsenal, and Chelsea, could subsequently eclipse the success Villa Park has seen in recent years.

NSWE have clearly looked into this and are ready to play the game, let’s see what happens next.
