Unai Emery has Aston Villa worry after what Emi Martinez did in Argentina loss v Paraguay

Emi Martinez has arguably been one of the best goalkeepers in the world in recent seasons but his recent dip in form will be concerning for Aston Villa.

The World Cup winner continued his struggles during the international break as La Albiceleste took on Paraguay on 14 November as the hosts pulled off an upset with a 2-1 victory.

The 32-year-old has been immense for the Villans since his move from Arsenal in 2020, winning his second Yashin Trophy recently, and the Lions have become a force to be reckoned with.

Unai Emery got off to a great start in the current campaign, and the win over Bayern Munich in the Champions League on 2 October, where Martinez once again proved his quality, showcased how far the team has come over the years.

But Villa have had a dip in form recently, losing four games back-to-back in all competitions, with cracks emerging in the backline.

The Argentine shot-stopper made zero saves throughout the game, with zero punches and high claims, as per FotMob.

The goalkeeper’s positioning for both goals could’ve been better, as he had 29 touches throughout the match, 95 per cent passing accuracy and completed 75 per cent of his long balls.

In his last three fixtures at Villa, the 32-year-old has conceded seven goals, and the Villa Park faithful will hope that the shot-stopper comes back in the right headspace ahead of their match against Crystal Palace on 23 November.
