Aston Villa surprise mooted amid transfer twist for Douglas Luiz at Juventus

Dan Bardell would be surprised to see Douglas Luiz return to Aston Villa after a difficult start to life at Juventus.

The Brazil international joined the Old Lady in the summer transfer window as part of a swap deal with Enzo Barrenechea and Samuel Iling-Junior.

After struggling to make an impact in Turin, the 26-year-old has been linked with a move back to Villa Park with Thiago Motta willing to cut his losses on the midfielder already [Calciomercato].

Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell believes Luiz will stick it out and become a success at Juventus given how much quality Villa have in midfield now.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bardell said: “I’d be very surprised if it happened.

Douglas Luiz wanted to leave in the summer and was a good servant to Villa and for PSR reasons he’s done the club a favour by moving but he wanted a new challenge anyway.

I love the variety that’s in Villa’s central midfield now, Tielemans has stepped up massively and does more than Luiz for me. There just wouldn’t be space for him, I like the four that Villa have got, they can all do different things.

I think Luiz will give it time in Italy, he won’t just give up, that’s not in his nature, I think he’ll turn it around.

Douglas Luiz return to Aston Villa unlikely after summer Juventus move

The Villa supporters were left gutted when the ex-Manchester City man left B6 for Serie A in the summer but with the form of Tielemans and Amadou Onana, he hasn’t necessarily been missed.

With that being said, his quality is undoubted and there is no doubt that he would add quality to the Villa side if he was to return.

This would leave Unai Emery’s squad bloated in the midfield given that Boubacar Kamara is only just returning from injury.

It feels unlikely that Luiz will return from Juventus to Villa Park but many fans would welcome the midfielder back any day.
