Ben Foster slams ‘Woeful’ Ezri Konsa after what he did for Aston Villa

Ben Foster has slammed Ezri Konsa for his defending as Aston Villa fell to defeat against Liverpool on Saturday.

The Villans suffered yet another defeat as they travelled to Anfield on 9 November and came away with nothing despite an improved performance from the Club Brugge defeat.

In the end, the Reds’ quality paid dividends as Mohamed Salah grabbed a late goal to double his side’s lead, capitalising on another Diego Carlos error.

Despite this mistake, Foster was keen to pick out Konsa for his defending while speaking on the Football Fill-In (12 November).

He said: “Woeful. Let’s talk about Villa’s defending quickly, talk about Mo Salah’s goal. When Ezri Konsa is getting back in there, why does he decide to run behind the goalkeeper?

“Why doesn’t he just try and push Mo Salah as wide as he can, get close to him and put him off? Surely you’ve got to put the fire out immediately.”

Ben Foster slams Ezri Konsa for poor Aston Villa showing

The England international has been superb for the Villans for many years with his performances making him one of the first names on the team sheet in B6.

As a centre back, alongside Pau Torres, there is a terrific partnership there which on its day is one of the best in the Premier League.

With that being said, due to an injury to Matty Cash, Unai Emery has opted to play the 27-year-old at right back which hasn’t paid off in recent weeks.

This saw him struggle in the Champions League against Brugge and, despite an improved showing against Liverpool, it wasn’t his night at Anfield.

His work rate can not be questioned, he got back to challenge Salah but arguably made the wrong decision which led to the goal.

This won’t worry his manager so much as the result always looked like going the way of the home side, especially when two penalty calls went begging.
