Sources close to Leon Bailey feel his instincts are being curbed at Aston Villa, according to The Athletic.

This is despite Unai Emery allowing the 27-year-old a significant amount of freedom in possession and continuing to play him regardless of form.

The outlet reported via its website on 11 November that Bailey had to play through injury and illness last season and has continued to do so this term despite picking up knocks at times.

Leon Bailey concern emerges at Aston Villa

Bailey was impressive for Aston Villa last season, notching 14 goals and assists each in 52 games across all competitions, but his performances this term have left much to be desired.

While the winger has played in all but two of Villa's 17 games in all competitions, he only has three assists to show for it. It is worth noting that those assists also did not contribute to winning causes.

The Jamaica international failed to make an impact for Emery's side in their 2-0 loss to Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday (9 November) as well, completing 11 of only 15 passes (Sofascore).

The news about Bailey playing through injuries is concerning as Emery is short of options - especially in the former Bayer Leverkusen man's mould - on the wings after selling Moussa Dibay to Al-Ittihad in the summer.

Villa, therefore, may need to sign a new winger in the January transfer window to avoid derailing their season and also get the best out of Bailey.
