Youri Tielemans told to focus on Aston Villa after what midfielder said about transfer exit

Bryan King has urged Youri Tielemans to focus on maintaining a high standard at Aston Villa.

The ex-Villa scout believes the Belgium international has “blossomed” since leaving Leicester City.

Tielemans recently admitted that he wouldn’t rule out a transfer to a bigger club. The midfielder said (via Foot News, 3 November), “I’ve heard left and right about why I didn’t go to such a big club earlier, but I’m doing really well here.

“The coach wanted to reach the Champions League, and we are already there, earlier than expected. Aston Villa will still grow, but when you have the opportunity to move up, you never say no in advance. At the moment I’m not thinking about it.”

And King – speaking exclusively to Villa News – wouldn’t be surprised if clubs in Europe were taking a look at Tielemans.

“This is a player who was fished out of Leicester,” King said.

“The Foxes were a Premier League club at that time. However, Villa are a bigger club than Leicester.

“I’ve liked Tielemans since I first saw him as a 16-year-old in Belgium. He was a standout player at that age. He’s an interesting player who has blossomed since joining Villa.

“If you’re consistently playing well, you will generate interest from other clubs.

“When official offers come in, then you will start taking it seriously. However, until then, speculation will always be speculation. He has a standard to maintain, and that is what he needs to focus on doing.”

Youri Tielemans opens up on transfer exit from Aston Villa

While a few things might have been lost in translation, Villa fans likely won’t be best-pleased about Tielemans discussing the idea of “moving up”.

However, supporters must accept that players will always be tempted by lucrative moves away, and it appears as though Tielemans is no exception. The midfielder has shone this season, largely thanks to Unai Emery.

And while Villa continue to rise under Emery, the players will always be attracting interest, while their manager is also at risk of being poached.

Tielemans is one of those players who will no doubt be turning a few heads. Therefore, all Villa can do is try their best to keep hold of the talented 27-year-old and his teammates.
