TNT commentator slams ‘silly, silly’ act from Diego Carlos in first half of Club Brugge v Aston Villa
Lucy Ward has slammed Diego Carlos after his “silly, silly” yellow card in the Aston Villa Champions League clash against Club Brugge.
The defender was carded for dissenting the referee after the challenge that Tyrone Mings made on one of the Belgian team’s midfielders.
The game currently sits at 0-0 and neither team have managed to create much throughout the clash but with both centre-backs now just a bad foul away from being sent off, it feels like Emery needs to axe the Brazilian after his moment that rightly earned the ire of Ward.
TNT commentator Adam Summerton said live on air (6 November): “He’ll be more annoyed with Diego Carlos Unai Emery.
To which Ward replied: “Absolutely, it’s a silly, silly yellow card”.
Diego Carlos has left Aston Villa in a bit of a pickle
Carlos and Mings were the two centre-backs chosen by Emery to start the game and he may be regretting his decisions somewhat now.
As per Sofascore, the defender has made one clearance and has managed to block one shot.
He’s won 0 per cent of his ground duels and has also committed one foul. He’s been fairly active on the ball with 46 touches to his name so far and his passing has pretty decent too.
86 per cent of the passes he’s made have been accurate with one even being deemed a key pass.
Over a long distance, however, his accuracy drops massively. Of the seven long-balls he’s attempted only 28 per cent of them have made it to their targets.

While Emery may not want to use a substitute so early into the tie, with a player such as Pau Torres sat on the bench, it feels like it could be the best move for the Villans.
In other Aston Villa news, Emery’s side are now favourites to seal a transfer from Southampton after the latest development emerged.
