Aston Villa boss Unai Emery in running to be next Manchester City manager

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery is in the running to become the next Manchester City boss if Pep Guardiola leaves in the summer, according to the latest bookmakers’ odds.

The Citizen’s boss is under contract at the Etihad until June 2025 and has previously been undecided over how long to stay at City [The Guardian].

This could see a change in the dugout for City next summer with bookmaker William Hill naming current Girona boss Michel as the odds-on favourite for the role at 3/1.

Further down the odds, at 33/1, the Villans’ boss Emery has been named ahead of the likes of Antonio Conte and Jurgen Klopp to be the ex-Barcelona man’s successor.

The Spaniard has been superb in his spell at Villa Park which has seen his side rise from a potential relegation battle to Champions League qualification.

There has been so much good coming out of B6 in the past two years with a whole host of key players being much improved under the ex-Arsenal manager.

The likes of Ollie Watkins and John McGinn have been much improved from old regimes, maintaining their status as regular players, while new signings like Pau Torres and Morgan Rogers have become integral players to the side.

The ability to make the most out of talent already at the club and also having an eye for impactful signings is clearly an attractive quality for other clubs with Emery being mooted in conversations involving Manchester United in recent weeks.

Villa’s manager is now in the odds to take over at the Red Devils’ closest rivals and would represent a much better prospect that would be much harder to turn down.

It is clear that the 53-year-old is loving his time with the Villans but it would be worrying for supporters if City decide to test his resolve.

In other Aston Villa news, Emery’s side are now favourites to seal a transfer from Southampton after the latest development emerged.
