Aston Villa ‘absolute disgrace’ as pundit explodes at what he saw v Club Brugge

Darren Anderton has brandished Aston Villa as an “absolute disgrace” for their performance in the first half against Club Brugge.

The Villans’ unbeaten start in the Champions League has come to an end after falling to a 1-0 defeat in Belgium on Wednesday 6 November.

After a moment of madness from Tyrone Mings, the away side never truly recovered but it is fair to say that Anderton believes it is what they deserved after their first half showing.

In a post to X (6 November), he said: “Villa absolute disgrace. 35 minutes of walking football. Who’d you think you are.”

Aston Villa slammed for Club Brugge performance

The result was ultimately summed up by the handball by Mings with this casual nature being rife throughout the showing at Jan Breydelstadion.

There was a general lack of intensity from start to finish which allowed Brugge to take advantage and have plenty of efforts on goal, even if their only goal was from 12 yards.

Unai Emery’s side have continued their struggling run of form with a defeat against Brugge where they created very few clear-cut chances.

Other than an Ollie Watkins effort which dribbled wide narrowly wide of Simon Mignolet’s goal, there was very little to talk of from a Villa perspective.

Emery can’t have been pleased by what he saw in the Champions League, especially with this defeat being just days after a 4-1 loss against Tottenham.

Supporters expected a bounce back in form against the Belgian outfit but it couldn’t have been further away from that in the end.

In other Aston Villa news, Emery’s side are now favourites to seal a transfer from Southampton after the latest development emerged.
