Robin Olsen tipped to exit Aston Villa in Swedish transfer

Dan Bardell believes Robin Olsen could stay at Aston Villa until the end of the season rather than leaving in the January transfer window.

The Sweden international’s contract is up at Villa Park at the end of the season which has piqued Malmo’s interest over a potential deal [Expressen].

The Villans are said to be open to selling the 34-year-old but this would leave them light with just Emi Martinez and Joe Gauci as the other senior goalkeepers at the club.

Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell can see Unai Emery waiting until the end of the season to let Olsen go rather than sanctioning a January deal.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bardell said: “Emery obviously likes something about him because he has kept him around.

You did wonder when he got injured whether Gauci would become the number two but Olsen has been on the bench ahead of him so that could point towards him being the number two.

Maybe a parting of ways at the end of the season, I don’t think he’ll go in January.

It would make sense for him at the end of his career to go back to Sweden and want to play. He’s a position that Villa fans have wanted an improvement in.

Robin Olsen could leave Aston Villa in January

The Villans do have Oliwier Zych coming through as a potential third choice but it could prove to be a risk letting the ex-Roma keeper go in the winter window.

Olsen hasn’t always received rave reviews from supporters in B6 but it is clear that Emery sees something in the shot-stopper which saw him start in the Conference League semi-final, in place of a suspended Martinez, last season.

With that being said, a parting of ways at the end of his current deal could prove to suit all parties better than a move in January which would leave Villa light.
