Morgan Rogers is in talks to sign a contract extension at Aston Villa, according to Jacob Tanswell.

The journalist reported via The Athletic [31 October] that Villa are keen to raise the 22-year-old's salary in line with his teammates at Villa Park, reflecting his key role in Unai Emery's squad.

Rogers joined the squad as a young player, just like Jhon Duran who has recently signed a new contract, meaning they were initially on low salaries compared to their teammates.

Rogers has been an incredible addition to Emery's squad since arriving from Middlesbrough in January of this year, earning an initial £8million move from the Championship [BBC Sport].

He has almost become undroppable, starting all nine of Villa's Premier League games this season and also playing a key role in their three Champions League victories so far.

While his numbers in front of goal are often criticised, he has notched two goals and two assists in nine league appearances and also grabbed an assist against Bologna in Europe.

Despite his age, Rogers is already one of the most important parts of Emery's squad, setting the pace of Villa's attack and helping to support Ollie Watkins and Duran in the final third.

A rising salary is certainly what the youngster deserves after his performances over the last season-and-a-half, and that looks to be exactly what is going to happen at Villa Park.

Up next for the forward, many fans are expecting an England call-up from Thomas Tuchel, having been left out by Lee Carsley in the most recent international break.

Fans already knew how talented he was while watching him play in the Championship, but hardly anyone expected him to hit the ground running quite so brilliantly.
